WORKING ON BEHALF OF OUR MEMBERS
Our mission is to drive sustainable demand for Northern Irish wool in order to maximise returns for our members.

Depot News…

Did you know during April the depot was in ‘maintenance mode’?

This means that grading is paused until the start of the new season in May. There is a lot to do; from servicing all the machinery to ensuring all skeps are tared, when grading recommences.

2023/2024 Wool

During this period, farmer members can still deliver their wool to Muckamore, but the grading of this wool will be processed in May.

Now that the 2023/2024 season wool has been graded, the mammoth task of ‘packing up’ happens. Which is when all sale lots are closed off under the supervision of our Wool Sales Manager. Every sale lot need to be closed off before we can start the 2024/2025 season of wool grading.

The depot processes over 120 sale lots in one season. Each lot ranges from 4,500kg to 8,500kg of a specific grade.

Depot Equipment

The depot’s equipment and machinery will be carefully and professionally serviced so staff can ‘hit the ground’ running when the new season starts.

At the Muckamore depot, we use the larger-sized skeps, each one must be accurately tared, and each wheel serviced and freed from any debris. Which is over 1,000 wheels on 260 skeps.

Our packing and coring machines are serviced more regularly but are cleaned before the new season and ready for action.

Health and safety signage, skep lane lines, and pedestrian and machinery areas are refreshed and renewed as everyone’s safety at the depot is of paramount importance to visitors and staff.

The depot staff look forward to welcoming the new season of wool and wishes all farmer members a successful lambing time.
