WORKING ON BEHALF OF OUR MEMBERS
Our mission is to drive sustainable demand for Northern Irish wool in order to maximise returns for our members.

Meet Allen McIntosh – Head Grader – Ulster Wool

Tell us a bit about yourself?

I am originally from Scotland but have lived in Antrim most of my life. I joined Ulster Wool on a Youth Training Programme at 17 years old progressing from an assisting grader, intake and packing and then doing a 5-year apprenticeship to be a wool grader.

Tell us about your role:

As a head grader, I am responsible for the overall quality and uniformity in grading and training any apprentices. I usually grade any clips when a member requests to see the grading. I also share my experience and knowledge with other graders when required.

How long have you worked at Ulster Wool?

I have worked here for 37 years.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy picking out the better wool to return more to our producers.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I enjoy playing golf, cycling and travelling.
