Sheep farmers receiving recognition for high quality clips

Hundreds of Producers registered with Ulster Wool have received certificates in recognition of delivering an ‘excellent clip’ for the 2018 / 2019 season.

The ‘Excellent Clip’ Certificate recognises the high standards of presentation from the point of harvesting the fleeces to delivery at the depot.  This includes correct rolling, ensuring fleeces are kept clean, well packed and identifiable. When producers take pride in presenting their clip, it reflects the high standards that are being met in the grading process. Producers that receive an ‘Excellent Clip Certificate’ will also be entered into a prize draw, with winners announced at the end of the season in April.

Depot Manager and Grader Stephen Preston commented: “We are continuously looking at ways of raising awareness with producers on the benefits of excellent fleece presentation to maximise the value of their wool.  This, and the high standards of grading at the depot ensures we are meeting the requirements of the global wool market and supplying wool of a consistent quality.  This will maintain the reputation of Ulster wool as a quality fibre and consequently add value which will help to maximise producer returns. We are passionate about wool and feel it’s important to recognise producers that take pride in presenting their clip.”
