Wool Innovators Project with Sentinus - Focus on St Anne's Primary School Corkey
St Anne’s is a rural primary school situated in the village of Corkey in the parish of Loughgiel, North County Antrim. More than a quarter of our pupils live on a family farm where sheep are part of the business, whilst many more are from an agricultural background.
Our P7 class will participate in the Wool Innovators project and are looking forward to learning about how wool produced on their farms and beyond can be used.
Oisin said, “We have different breeds of sheep on our farm, so I am looking forward to learning how different types of wool are most suitable for different purposes.”
Emmet said, “I want to learn what happens to a fleece from my farm as it is turned into the wool used to make jumpers and coats.”
Maia said, “Knitting yarn is so bright and colourful so I want to know how a fleece is coloured and made into yarn for knitting.”
Ruari said, “I want to know how long it takes to make useable wool from a fleece.”
Liam said, “I am looking forward to presenting our project work at the Balmoral Show- I have never been!”
Danny said, “I want to know what the future for wool is and what new uses there could be for wool produced on our farm.”
